Player, Parent, and Coach Code of Conduct
Please note that all players/parents/coaches need to abide by the guidelines as set out by Okotoks Basketball Association (OBA).
AS A PLAYER I WILL:
- Play by the rules and in the spirit of the game
- Respect my teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and parents
- Not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct, including taunting, trash-talking, or disrespectful gestures.
- Control my actions - no fighting, verbal abuse, or swearing
- Acknowledge all good plays/performances, both those of my team and of my opponents
- Remember that winning isn’t everything; having fun, improving skills, being a team player, and doing my best are MORE important
AS A PARENT I WILL:
- Encourage my child to play fair and by the rules
- Be generous with praise and set a good example by not ridiculing athletes or officials
- Applaud performances by both my child’s team and their opponents
- Refrain from showing frustration at or openly disputing the decisions of the officials
- Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sports
- Show respect and appreciation towards players, coaches, officials, league administrators, and volunteers
- Volunteer my time when needed
- Help keep the gym facilities clean and abide by any gym rules of use
AS A COACH I WILL:
- Ensure that all athletes are treated with respect and provided instruction and support
- Teach athletes to play fairly and to respect the rules, officials, teammates, and opponents
- Be generous with praise, encourage confidence, and set a good example by not ridiculing athletes
- Treat other coaches, parents, players, and referees with respect
- Continue to develop my coaching skills in order to give the best of myself
- Work in partnership and communicate with parents, players, and the OBA executive
- Leave the gym facilities as clean as I found them
