End of Season Update

OBA families,

We are headed into the final weekend of the 2023/24 CMBA season and we wanted to take an opportunity to say thank you to all of our players, coaches and families for another great season!

Thank you to our players for your hard work in practice to grow your skills and in games where you saw those skills really shine. Thank you to our coaches for helping these young athletes build their skills and learn about the ups and downs of competition. Thank you to our families for your incredible support of our teams through the season. We hope you're ready to cheer loudly for one more game this weekend!

As the season is finishing we do ask that everyone remember to hand in your uniform to you coach following your final game. We will be arranging to collect all team uniforms from the coaches next week.

For those looking to continue with basketball in the spring season, registration is currently open until March 8th with full details available here.

Basketball within Okotoks continues to grow and we look forward to seeing you all in a gym again very soon!

Spring Community Registration Is Now Closed!

Registration has closed as of March 8th

Spring Details:

Program Cost is $395 plus a $100 refundable uniform deposit. The uniform deposit will be refunded following the return of your uniform at the end of the season.

The Spring Community program will begin with player evaluations in mid-March, teams will be set and practices will begin in April. The season will run until the end of June.

The evaluation schedule will be announced once registration has closed.

Age Groups:

U11 - Born in 2013 and later 

U13 - Born in 2011, 2012 

U15 - Born in 2009, 2010 

High School (HS) - Born in 2006, 2007, 2008

Spring teams will practice twice weekly in Okotoks on either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu evenings. Games will be in played in Calgary on Friday evenings and Saturdays with a total of 9 games being played over 3 weekends:

May 10th and 11th

May 24th and 25th

June 14th and 15th

The schedule for the first weekend of games will be available approx. 3 weeks in advance.

OBA 2024 Spring Club Basketball - Info, Tryout Schedule & Registration Link

We are excited to share, OBA 2024 Spring Club Tryout Registration is OPEN!

There are significant differences between Club and Community basketball.  Below we will highlight the most frequently asked questions as a way to help you make the best decision for your athlete and your family when it comes to playing ball with OBA this spring.   

Please note should Club Teams not be for you and your family, we will be sending more information out regarding the spring community season in the first couple weeks of February.  

• OBA will have a club team at each level U11-High School for each boys and girls  
• Club Teams are highly competitive and begin earlier than the Community teams, there are no border exclusions for players, enabling them to tryout anywhere they would like
• There is a $25 tryout fee per athlete, this is non-refundable and covers the cost of gym rentals
• The fees for Club Teams are higher than that of community teams, the reasons being; more practice time, longer season, tournaments; which may include travel (Including a spot in the very successful OBA Club tournament), specialized Club apparel for the athletes, coach reimbursement for tournament travel, etc. The fees are anticipated to be around $1000 per athlete. Please note U11 may be lower
• Club Teams will practice more than a community team; with at least two, hour and a half practices a week, which are expected to be attended
• The Club season will run from the middle of March into July, being tournament dependant
• OBA has the infrastructure, knowhow and creativeness to offer each club team a unique, customized experience whether they want to compete in league, tournaments, travel experiences or all of the aforementioned. During the online registration process you will have an opportunity to share your opinion on these topics
• After tryouts, players who were successful in making their team, will be contacted via email and offered a spot. We are aware that some athletes will be trying out for more than one Club Team, therefore, in order to secure our teams and begin practicing as soon as able, once you are contacted you will have 48 hours to advise OBA of your decision and pay your non-refundable $250 team commitment deposit or your spot will be offered to another athlete
• Coaches for some teams have been selected and we know this is a deciding factor for some families therefore our selected coaches are:

• U15 Girls = Janette Lybbert & Jordan Hick
• U15 Boys = Ken Zelez
• HS Girls = Andrew Gustafson
• HS Boys = Blake Husky & Uday Dhillon

*Should other coaches be decided on before tryouts you will be notified at tryouts*   

The bottom line is, we know we have some incredibly talented athletes and excellent coaches within OBA and we offer a fantastic Club basketball experience. We are excited to see you at tryouts and know that 2024 will be as successful as years previous, if not more so!

Athletes are required to attend one out of two tryouts in order to be considered for the Club Teams, however it is preferable to attend both enabling a well-rounded evaluation opportunity for the athlete. Zero exceptions will be made

OBA 2024 Spring Club Basketball - Save The Date Update

The basketball community within Okotoks and area continues to grow and with that comes the opportunity to address the feedback that has been received about our upcoming Club tryout dates. With respect to the current teams and their active season we are working around that to hold Club tryouts so as not to take away their valuable practice times.

We value all of our association members and want to be able to offer year-round programs that continue to grow our community. We are going to be adding additional Club tryout dates on two Friday evenings to offer flexibility to all who want to tryout.

We haven’t been able to reply to each individual email, but please know we have read them, and we are taking these into consideration as we adjust the tryout schedule to better serve our basketball community.

As we secure the additional gym time we will update everyone on the schedule details and the registration.

OBA 2024 Spring Club Basketball - Save The Date

As we begin 2024, we have reflected on previous years and are happy to share that planning is already underway for our upcoming Spring Club Season and wanted to get you the tryout dates as soon as we had them.  We know we have excellent players along with great coaches within OBA and we can offer a fantastic and competitive Club experience. We have had great success with our Club program over the past few years and know we will continue to build on that through the upcoming spring season. As a reminder this opportunity is available for players from U11-U18.

Tryouts will be on the following dates at Meadow Ridge School with specific times and a registration link to be sent out in the coming week:

• Sunday, Jan  21 = 12:00pm - 4:00pm
• Sunday, Jan 28 = 12:00pm - 4:00pm

We will be sending more detailed information on the Club program including Club Team coaches in the coming week.
